Jak doszło do wspólnej trasy Miller/Możdżer/Namysłowski?

W 1978 roku 19-letni Marcus Miller wziął udział w nowojorskiej sesji nagrania napisanego trzy lata wcześniej (już) przeboju Zbigniewa Namysłowskiego „Kujawiak goes funky”. Kompozycja i cała sesja zapadła w pamięci Marcusa do tego stopnia pozytywnie, że 36(!) lat później, na jego własną prośbę, dyrektor artystyczny gdańskiego festiwalu Solidarity of Arts Krzysztof Materna umożliwił ponowne (wspólne z Z. Namysłowskim i L. Możdżerem) wykonanie tego utworu podczas finału widowiska Esperanza+, 16 sierpnia 2014 roku na scenie plenerowej Polskiej Filharmonii Bałtyckiej w Gdańsku.

Tego samego wieczoru powstał pomysł wspólnej polskiej trasy Miller/Możdżer/Namysłowski.

The Marcus Miller, Leszek Możdżer and Zbigniew Namysłowski November tour of Poland is an (at least) two-in-one affair. Every concert includes:

1. Afrodeezia – material from the most recent album of the brilliant U.S. musician and trendsetting bass guitarist Marcus Miller performed by Marcus and his band;

2. Leszek Możdżer presenting his most interesting recent projects, including (in Katowice, Wrocław and Gdynia) the Dream Team of Możdżer/Danielsson/Fresco performing their greatest hits, as well as introducing their new material;

How did Miller/Możdżer/Namysłowski 2015 tour come about?

In 1978 in New York a 19-year-old Marcus Miller took part in a recording session of a hit tune by a (then 39-year-old) accomplished Polish jazz saxophonist Zbigniew Namysłowski called “Kuyaviak goes funky”. The session and particularly the music stayed with Marcus and 36(!) years later (upon finding out that Kuyaviak’s author is alive and well!) he was excited about the idea of playing it again. The occasion was put together by the director of the Solidarity of Arts Festival in Gdańsk, Krzysztof Materna, and “Kuyaviak” was performed by Marcus, Leszek Możdżer and Zbigniew Namysłowski as part of the Esperanza Spalding’s show finale on 16 August 2014 at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. That same night the idea of a Miller/Możdżer/Namysłowski tour of Poland was born.
